Onset woman taken to hospital after rollover in Fairhaven By Sandy Quadros Bowles Posted Mar. 8, 2016 at 1:23 PM FAIRHAVEN _ A 71-year-old Onset woman was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Tuesday morning after her vehicle struck a telephone pole and flipped over onto its roof near the Route 6 and New Boston Road intersection, according to Fairhaven Police Sgt. Kevin Kobza, public information officer for the police department. The woman’s name and condition were not immediately available, Kobza said. She was conscious and alert at the scene, he said. The 2011 VW Golf was traveling west toward New Bedford when the accident happened at about 11:12 a.m., Kobza said. Live utility wires landed on the vehicle, Kobza said, but Fairhaven Deputy Fire Chief Todd Correia and a Mattapoisett paramedic managed to extricate the woman from the car, Kobza said. Both sides of Route 6 were closed for about 45 minutes after the accident, Kobza said. Mattapoisett police assisted with traffic control, he said. Car Flips Over, Telephone Pole Snapped In Fairhaven Crash By Dan McCready March 8, 2016 1:06 PM A section of Route 6 in Fairhaven has been reopened following a Tuesday morning car accident. Police Sgt. Kevin Kobza tells WBSM News that at approximately 11:10 a.m. a car, identified as a 2011 Red Volkswagen Golf was travelling on Route 6W when it struck a utility pole near 343 Huttleston Ave., causing the pole to snap in half. The car ended up on its roof with wires across the undercarriage. Kobza says the road was shut down for approximately 40 minutes as crews worked to clear the scene. The driver, identified as a 71-year-old woman from Onset, was extracted from the car with the assistance of EMS crews from Mattapoissett. Her current condition wasn’t available.
